Thanks for the info!! Do you happen to know which version of Entune is installed?

No I don't and I'm not even sure how to check.

I have an 8GB USB drive with just over 1,100 songs on it. After several attempts adjusting the MP3 tags (adding random numbers to the song title, adding random numbers to the artist, etc.) nothing worked. Tried putting songs in various folders which didn't have any effect. When the vehicle is turned off and back on, it will not remember the random mode setting. Only after removing all the MP3 tags and it will play songs in random order. Another thing I noticed is that songs play that have never or rarely played before in random mode after removing the MP3 tags.

The songs are on the flash drive as artist name - song name.mp3. One downside I noticed is it only displays xx number of charters of the file name on the screen. It's not smart enough to display the whole rest of the file name on the next line. Without any tags, Grace Note doesn't display any album art. Don't really need the album art because I know what songs are on the USB drive ;) The other downside is the I cannot request a specific song or artist by using the voice recognition system.

2014 corolla had this issue since day one. Toyota replaced radio in 2016 due to bad touchscreen. Bonus..... usb issue is fixed with this replacement radio. I assume it must have a newer software installed.

Thanks for the reply!!

Since my initial post, I no longer have the 2014 RAV. Leased a 2017 RAV 4 a little over a year ago with no CD player. I don't have to set the random mode when listening to music on a USB flash drive every time I turn the vehicle on.

But there are still intermittent problems. It forgets random is set after every 2-3 engine cycles and plays the 1st song stored on the USB stick. I get around this by requesting a specific song then it goes back into random mode. (An obvious oversight in the voice commands is the inability to set random mode via voice.)

The USB stick I use has just over 1,000 songs stored in the "root" directory. Tried what the manual says and created individual directories with no more than 256 songs in each directory. There doesn't seem to be any difference in the songs being played "randomly" whether the songs are in the root directory vs. individual directories.

The random mode also seems to turn itself off when it's cold outside. Also noticed the random mode sometimes turns off when opening the fuel door to get gas and occasionally when raising and lowering the rear hatch. Sounds strange but it's driving me nuts because the problem is not consistent and seems to have a mind of its own ;)

The USB stick is plugged in all the time and noticed Entune sometimes forgets the USB stick is even plugged in after turning the vehicle on.

I've tried several USB sticks and almost every combination of ID tags and nothing has worked:
Tried using full tags (song title, artist, album, genre, etc.)
Tried completely blank tags
Tried song title & artist only

"Playing the file from a deeply embedded folder instead of from top of directory: Audible.

Seems to have same effect when file path name is maximum length, regardless of directory structure. Probable reason -- buffering issue, since the music playback software takes considerably longer to load the data prior to playback in these cases. "
